‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
\nEveryone was sleeping, as I left-clicked my mouse.
\nThe data was organized hierarchically with care,
\nIn hopes that significance soon would be there.<\/p>\n
The design matrices were placed and I silently pled,
\nWhile beta estimation proceeded and sped.
\nI sat there and watched with a cat in my lap,
\nWishing I could lay down for a well-deserved nap.<\/p>\n
When in the background there arose a great clatter,
\nI quickly switched desktops to see what was the matter.
\nTabbing through windows I flew like a flash,
\nPraying that MATLAB would not have crashed.<\/p>\n
While I saw that the process continued to slow,
\nI was still encouraged that it continued to go.
\nWhen, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
\nBut a modal dialog, “Preprocessing is clear”.<\/p>\n
With my mouse pointer moving so lively and quick,
\nI started a group model with just a few clicks.
\nMore rapid than eagles the images came,
\nI whistled, I shouted, and called my subjects by name.<\/p>\n
“Now AW! Now SL! Now ME and CG!
\nOn CK! On JS! On DC and MC!
\nLet’s roll the dice, wherever they may fall,
\nNow estimate, estimate, estimate all!”<\/p>\n
Another click made the processor fly,
\nThe progress bar slowly rose up to the sky.
\nOut of my chair to the kitchen I flew,
\nYou can’t ever argue with your internal milieu.<\/p>\n
As I ate Christmas cookies I played all aloof,
\nPretending to not care if there might be a goof.
\nI was working on my dissertation this time around,
\nAnd my hopes of graduating were nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n
I returned to the computer and massaged my foot,
\nThinking only of brimstone, ashes, fire, and soot.
\nI needed results to prove I had a knack,
\nResults my committee would find hard to attack.<\/p>\n
My eyes, how they twinkled! My dimples how merry!
\nI smiled so wide, my results were just cherry.
\nPrevious experiments had filled me completely with woe,
\nbut incredible results I would be able to show.<\/p>\n
A pencil I held all tight in my teeth,
\nAs I saw active regions arrayed as a wreath.
\nI chortled and shook throughout my belly,
\nThough not like Saint Nick, with his bowlful of jelly.<\/p>\n
I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t seen it myself,
\nI pulled down my atlas from off of the top shelf.
\nPrimary motor, secondary somatosensory, and on around the head,
\nThrough frontal and temporal areas I was lead.<\/p>\n
I shrugged to myself and began my work,
\nFrom region to region my mouse moved with a jerk.
\nI made my notes as through the brain I rose,
\n“The data is the data”, and this time it shows.<\/p>\n
When all was done I gave a quick whistle,
\nI shut things down and was off like a missile.
\nI left the office and turned out the light.
\n“Happy Christmas to all, my dissertation’s alright!”<\/p>\n
